After migration to SEOSuite it appears that SEOTab got uninstalled. I feel like it wasn’t me that uninstalled it. Well, the client wasn’t happy because she uses the chit out of that SEOTab and all it’s options.
So I’ve reinstalled it, but now things like “show this page in google sitemap” are irrelevant because I’ve switched to the SEOSuiteSitemap. Just the plain snippet, no options because those don’t work.
I can see the redirects have migrated, and this makes the client unhappy. The long list doesn’t play well with her as it isn’t easily associated and resource specific. They’re really liked the SEOTab…
Client is also freaking out about a bunch of 404’s showing up and she isn’t sure what to do with them or why they’re there. I’m a little confused as well. Based on this from the 404 page, it seems like SEOTab will still work as long as it’s installed. Yes? But not the google sitemap option? Or… ??
- When there’s exactly one match, it will be automatically converted to a 301 redirect in SEO Tab, or, when SEO Tab is not installed, SEO Suite will handle the redirect;
- When there are several matches, you can choose the desired redirect manually;
- When there are no matches, you can enter a URL to redirect to yourself.
Client uses her outside SEO tools, so I’m not sure all the 404’s are even valid. She would have fixed all of these long ago. Do we have to check each of them manually?
She’s asking about the indexingng (findability) from SEOTab as well.
This client loves MODX and understands it’s use and power to do what she needs it to do, but she literally typed “I do not like this, Sam I Am” in an email. I hope to figure out to show her how to like it before the end of the book.
Also, does anyone know if the SEOSuite dashboard widget is user dependent? I can see it, but the client can not. She’s logged out and back in, cleared cache, closed the browser, etc. If it’s user dependent, that seems like a bad idea.
Is this MODX 3? If a dashboard in MODX 3 is customizable (checkbox “Customizable” is ticked for the dashboard), then every user should be able to customize the widgets on their dashboard.
Yes, it’s MODX 3. Thank you. I wasn’t aware the dashboard was user specific in that way.
So sorry, this sat in draft for days. Thank you for replying.
No clues about my other questions? I tried to recreate the install of SEOSuite and see if it removed SEOTab, but it did not. So, it must have been me. SEOTab is supposed to be installed, but there’s a line in the docs that says “if SEOTab isn’t installed” which I’m unsure how to interpret. I’d like to know how the 301’s are being handled from SEOTab settings, and still not sure about this list of 404’s that the client says don’t exist. I believe her. And why this big list? She’d rather not deal with her 301’s in this way. She wants to do it in the resource, which makes sense.
It’s a bit unclear to me what the actual question is.
I never tried to run both “SEO Tab” and “SEO Suite” on the same system. So I don’t know if they interfere with each other as the functionality is quite similar.
Are you talking about the tab “404 URLs” that can be accessed via the menu “Extras” → “SEO Suite”?
Every time a request is made to a page that can’t be found (event OnPageNotFound runs), the URL of this requests gets added to the list.
For example when you request https://www.yourdomain.com/pagethatdoesntexist.html
, this URL gets added to the “404 URLs” list. When you request it again, the hit counter (Colum “Hits”) gets incremented. You can see from the list, what nonexistent URLs repeatedly get requested and you can define a redirect for them (if you want to).
I think with “SEO Suite” it’s still possible to manage the redirects from either the CMP (“Extras” → “SEO Suite” → tab “URL redirects”) or from the resource (tab “Search Engine” → vertical tab “URLs”).
Very similar to how it worked with “SEO Tab” (“Extras” → “SEO Tab” → tab “301 Redirects” | tab “SEO” → vertical tab “301 Redirects” in the resource).
