Date TV not displaying german umlauts correctly

I’m using a date TV within MIGXdb to get a user to enter a date. I suspect this date is saved as unix timecode in the database, but when I receive it again with this chunk:

[[+datum:strtotime:date=`%e. %B %Y`]]

I don’t get the german umlauts (ä, ö, ü) displayed correctly, instead there is a question mark within a diamond shaped box. I do have my locale systems setting set to de_DE and in general umlauts are displayed fine on the site.

What am I missing here?

Thanks, changing the locale System Setting to this did the trick:

de_DE.UTF-8
