Bringing back file overwriting

Update 2.8.0 eliminated the ability to overwrite files in the media browser when uploading a new version. How can I change this? It’s really annoying when I’m uploading a group of PDFs or images and some are skipped because they already existed.

2.8.1 has a upload_check_exists system setting

Awesome! So setting this to ‘No’ will restore the old functionality? Are there any specific downsides to doing this which merited doing this in the first place?

Version 2.8 incorporates a change in behavior that several people, myself included, were pushing back against during development. This version will check for the existence of a file upon upload, and if a file with the same name already exists, it will display an error message and prevent upload.
